The award-winning developmental program for children and youth ages six and up features classes and performance ensembles learning and playing percussion traditions from around the world. Professional musicians and pre-professional youth instructors teach using authentic instruments in an ensemble setting at the beginner, intermediate and advanced levels.

Participants learn through the program at their own pace and according to their interests. At the intermediate and advanced levels, participation is by audition or invitation buy the instructors.

• Focus: New repertoire; some local performances.
• Cost: $120 ($10 per class)

Senior Performance Ensemble - Kutapira (Rehearsals), 6:00-8:00pm: Director – J. Duncan

• Focus: Blending African and Caribbean traditions; performing and touring.
• Cost: $144 ($12 per rehearsal)

Intermediate Percussion/ Marimba Class (Kutapira Project), 4:00-6:00pm:

• Focus: percussion training and rhythmic development through marimba music.

Samba Percussion, 6:30-7:30pm: Instructor – C. Souza

• Focus: Brazilian carnival rhythms played on hand percussion and surdo drums.
• Cost: $96 ($8 per class)

THURSDAYS Sept 21-Dec 7, 12 classes

Beginner Marimba (ages 6-8), 4:00-4:45pm: Instructors – C. Couto, T. Vincent

• Focus: Simple melodies played in ensemble.
• Cost: $50 ($5 per class)

Beginner Marimba (ages 9+) 5:00-6:00pm: Instructors – C. Couto, T. Vincent, S. Jamieson

• Focus: New arrangements of old repertoire plus new songs.
• Cost: $80 ($8 per class)

Junior Performance Ensemble - Kunaka (Rehearsals), 6:15-7:45pm: Director – T. Vincent; Instructor – C. Couto

• Focus: Learning and sharing marimba music through performance.

• Focus: New marimba repertoire; performances at local community events.

Family Marimba Class, 1:00-2:30pm: Instructors: - S. Bigelow, T. Vincent

• Focus: Parent and child learn basic marimba songs.
• Cost: $100 ($10 per adult per class)
